Ghost Stories is one of the most hilarious animes I have watched recently.
The anime is about a girl named Satsuki whose family moves to the hometown of her deceased mother. When her and her little brother Keiichirou chase their cat into the old abandoned schoolhouse, along with their neighbor Hajime and paranormal obsessed Leo discover that the building is haunted. It is soon revealed that Satsuki’s mother was responsible for sealing several of the ghosts who haunt the old school and the town, these ghosts released due to the urbanization in the surrounding area. Luckily, Satsuki’s mother left behind a book that explains how to exorcize the ghosts. Satsuki soon faces a demon called Amanojaku, and she mistakenly seals the demon into her pet cat, Kaya. Though Amanojaku is reluctant at first, it is left up to Satsuki, her friends, and Amanojaku to exorcise the rest of the ghosts troubling the town.
The anime was receiving poor ratings in Japan, and was then sent to the United States in hope of bolstering its viewings. The creators of the show allowed the English voice actors to have free reign of what they said as they were dubbing the show, and hilarity ensued. Though the show is not actually scary as the creators were originally going for, the voice actors make up for the stereotypical nature of the show through their ad-libs throughout the episodes.
Below is a link to the first episode, and if you have a chance, check it out. As the episodes progress, the voice actors get more ballsy with their lines, so if you continue watching the show, you will get a huge kick out of it.
